Veiled Chameleon (Chameleo calyptratus)

 Blue
phase male Veiled Chameleon
|
Housing : Babies can be
raised in 20 gallon aquariums with a screen top until
they are 5"- 6 " long. Adults can be maintained
one per 30 gallon aquarium with screen top but do better
in an all screen enclosure . All enclosures should contain
either plastic or live plants for hiding , a variety
of different diameter branches , a basking spot and
UV lighting .
|
| Feeding :Babies should
be fed 2 week old crickets dusted with a good quality
mineral supplement such as Miner-All . Crickets should
be properly fed prior to feeding them to your chameleon
and should never be larger than 1/2 the size of the
Chameleons head . Adults will readily consume crickets
, meal worms , super meal worms , wax worms and roaches
along with some plant matter.
Water : Chameleons will
not drink out of a water bowl . Water should be offered
daily either with a drip irrigation system or by spraying
the chameleons and plants directly . The watering device
can be as simple as setting a deli cup ( small hole
punched in the bottom ) half full of water on top of
their enclosure and allowing the water to slowly drip
onto the plants or into a small shallow bowl .
